Colourful rubber bracelets in a variety of shapes and sizes will be the latest craze to sweep the playground, according to fashion experts.
Silly Bandz bracelets have already proved a smash in the United States and they’re set to cross the Atlantic in the coming months, but it won’t be just children wearing the accessories.
A number of high-profile celebrities across the pond – including Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica-Parker and actress Mary-Kate Olson – have been spotted wearing the items, while British model Agness Deyn is also a fan.
The bands’ distributer is looking to bring them to Britain and expects them to be available on the high street within the next few weeks.
One retailer, Firebox, has been selling the bracelets since July and has reported that they have been their biggest selling toy since hitting the shelves.
The company believes they have sold 3,000 bracelets in just over a month, with 2,000 understood to have been sold during a single week.
Chief executive Christian Robertson has said the organisation is already stocking up in preparation for Christmas.
“We make around 60 per cent of our turnover in the final quarter of every year and the fact that these products are selling so well now is encouraging,” he said.
“It is even a little surprising, given that the children are not at school at the moment,” he added. “I think that, given the viral nature of their promotion, they will become even more popular – just in time for Christmas.”
The bracelets stretch across the wrist when worn but return to their original shape upon removal.
